OCD/Hoarding...Hereditary?
There seems to be some debate as to whether OCD and/or Hoarding are hereditary. Perhaps there's some nature and some nurture involved.
Growing up, "cleaning up" when we were going to have company involved taking our things to our rooms and my mother stuffing some things into bags and then into closets. Once my parents divorced, my mother's posessions seemed to grow as did her catalog shopping, including items she had no need for. Where I became a "lazy slob" just like my mother, my sister tended towards fastidiousness. Flip side of the same coin perhaps?
Both my parents were "compulsive" to the point where they ended up going to OA (Overeater's Anon). They were prone to trade one obsessive behaviour for another, as was I. I suspect that part of the denial from my family in regards to my OCD is that they might have to admit that it IS inherited. I don't know, I'm only speculating, but my husband suspects as much as well.
As for what the "experts" say(in a nutshell, most concede that there is probably some amount of heredity involved) These links are by no means exhaustive, a plethura of sites abound.

By the way, there are numerous books available on the subject (no affiliation, just helping others)
